Fifteen years ago the incidence of autism was 1 in 1500. Today it is 1 in 96. Children with low birth weights, birth trauma, and feeding challenges are thriving with medical advances. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that in the United States, 17% of children have a developmental or behavioral disability. However, less than 50% of these children are identified as having a problem before starting school, by which time significant delays may have already occurred and opportunities for treatment have been missed. Parents will follow your advice in seeking evaluations in preschool aged children. Early identification and treatment is crucial.
